The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the Tamil Nadu Government to reconsider the request of Seven Screen Studio, the producer of the Vijay-starrer movie Leo, to permit the screening of five shows of the film, starting from 7 am, between October 19 and 24. The producer has been directed to hold talks with the government later in the day in this regard.

The pan-Indian movie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has created much hype in Tamil Nadu and other areas ahead of its worldwide release on October 19. Based on the production company’s request, the Tamil Nadu government permitted theatre owners to hold five shows a day starting at 9 am.

However, the producer moved the high court seeking permission to hold a 4 am special show on the release day and five shows starting at 7 am for the next few days till October 24 to address the huge demand.

Justice Anitha Sumanth on Tuesday refrained from passing any orders on the request for a special show on October 19 and further directed the producer as well as representatives of the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners’ Association to hold talks with the government at 4 pm on Tuesday on running five shows.Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, V Karthikeyan, who is part of the legal team representing the petitioner, told reporters that their argument was that screening the movie, including interval and entry/exit of the audience, would take about 3 hours and 45 minutes and it will not be possible to run five shows a day within the 16 hours and 30 minutes allocated by the government as this would, in effect, require 18 hours and 45 minutes.

“We said that it will be possible to run five shows only if we begin the screening at 7 am. We will provide our representation to the principal secretary. Further, we also sought permission for a 4 am show as it is allowed in other states and we will provide a separate representation for that as well,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Regupathy told reporters that the government will follow the orders of the high court. He said the government would never create any hurdle for the film Industry nor does it have any hatred towards it, and the government has even been taking various measures to help small-time producers.
